“On the Ply” a hurricane inspired series.
In 2004, I went to Miami to visit family. Shortly after my arrival, I learned we were in the direct path Hurricane Francis. The room I was staying had been converted into a plywood storage facility. We would use the wood, as protection, to secure the windows the following day.
Unable to sleep, and bored by the monotony of repeated hurricane tracking, I found my attention wondering to the plywood to find some relief. Enjoying the natural beauty of the grain and textures, I began organizing shapes and patterns in the wood, extracting figures and subject matters.
This is what I found.
